Useful practices for opportunity/demand management

In ITIL4 the Service Value System (SVS) is used to enable value creation by addressing any opportunity or demand of service stakeholders.

Some practices are useful to address these opportunities or demands. Let us explore them:

  • Strategy management: this practice helps identifying opportunities and demands to align the business and IT strategies.

  • Relationship management: this practice gathers demands at a strategic and tactical level.

  • Portfolio management: this practice is used to identify opportunities through the portfolios of customers, services, and projects/programs.

  • Business analysis: this practice gathers demands at a tactical level.

  • Architecture management: this practice is used to identify opportunities through innovative solutions.

  • Risk management: as opportunity is a type of risk, this practice can be used to manage opportunities.

Some ITIL4 practices can be very useful to manage the inputs of the SVS.
